The Papuan Philatelic Society was formed in November 1954 when a meeting was held by local enthusiasts in Port Moresby, Papua, and since that date this has become an International society with members living as far apart as Hong Kong to South America or Germany to Hawaii.

The Society covers all aspects of philately from the Island of New Guinea, and is open to all philatelists with an interest in the Island's stamps and postal history, and at present has a active world wide membership

The Society publishes a regular 'Journal, Papua New Guinea, Calling', Auctions are held to enable members to sell their material. At the AGM and meetings there are opportunities to swap, buy and sell as well as a small in-house auction.
